Every time I see a picture of super shiny, polished armor I want to kick a Victorian.
They deserve it!!!
the more history you learn, doesnt matter what history, the more you hate the victorians
This disclaimer should be read, signed, and archived for anyone interested in history.
Wait but WHY
Because the Victorians had a nasty habit of viewing all history through the lens of a world-view that justified their imperialist patriarchal and white suprematist society. As a result, they reinterpreted, ignored and outright erased anything that contradicted that world view.
On an ethical level, that.
On a personal level - they polished medieval armor to a mirror finish thinking that was what it was supposed to look like, when most armor was finished with bluing, blacking, enamel, or paint to be outlandish and gaudy and gorgeous, and most importantly - resist rusting.
They did the same thing to ancient statues, assuming that they were meant to be bare white marble (as their paint had since flaked and worn away), when in fact they looked like stunningly gorgeous pop art of the ancient world.
What I’m seeing here is that I should make my LARP characters as gaudy as possible.

I’m still reeling over the fact when I went with my friend to a renaissance fair, there was a lady who was handing out samples. My friend took a bite of it and all I heard was
“My lord that’s soap”
Is that Roman Bath? ‘Cause our Faire has Roman Bath that hands out lil soap samples and apparently someone ALWAYS eats the soap. I developed a habit of wandering by at least once a day and going 'so how many?’ and the sample hander-outer would be “Three today” or “Six and it’s not even lunchtime, what the hell”. On one occasion “Two, but one of them went 'ooh, soap’ before she bit into it and I’m still confused.”

They used rubber bullets, tear gas, flash grenades and physical force the second there was a small gathering in the memory of a murdered black person
But when Trump supporters STORM THE CAPITAL the police stand by, they try to push back but barely. No state troopers, no militaristic police. Just domestic terrorism being allowed
Just more proof that the American police exists to uphold white supremacy and suppress black voices

“ah surely the kanye jeffree starr alleged hookup is the craziest thing I’ll hear today” I say, a full minute before checking twitter to see armed maskless white supremacists have stormed the capitol building and the senate is barricaded in their chamber

really terrible but not at all surprising to have factual, real-time evidence that police would not shoot right wingers even if they formed a mob and stormed government buildings

Today I was getting my hair cut and I pulled up a picture to show the very nice lady cutting my hair and she looked at it and said “uh. Are you sure you’re showing me the right picture” and I looked down at my phone and I was showing her this

To all the parents out there who bundle their babies up in the winter time with those little hats with the little ears that make them look like little teddy bears: You are doing the lord’s work. Seeing tiny ewoks toddle across the grocery store parking lot is just what we all need sometimes. My joy is immeasurable and my day is restored.

Absolutely *love* how Republicans were condemning the peaceful BLM protests, but now these same people are literally storming the Capitol Building
